Key Responsibilities


Conducts ultrasound examinations as per physician directives, adhering to departmental protocols to capture accurate cross-sectional images of the designated scan area.


Communicates procedures to patients and addresses any inquiries; reviews patient history for relevant information.

Utilizes ultrasound equipment and techniques to ensure patient comfort and maintain consistent results.

Performs routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of equipment in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.

Provides care for patients across all age groups while executing ultrasound exams and specialized procedures.

Acts as a liaison between patients and physicians.

Regularly engages in essential patient care functions.

Responds to emergencies within the scope of practice.

Maintains precise patient records by documenting relevant information in charts.

Alerts nursing staff to any significant changes in a patient's condition during procedures.

Compiles clinical data for timely physician interpretation of echo results.


Ensures the quality of diagnostic procedures and supplies the interpreting physician with necessary test information for effective evaluations.

Handles general office tasks, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, filing, maintaining patient records, and ordering supplies.

Participates in the inventory and ordering of medical equipment and supplies.

Cultural Sensitivity and Competence
Exhibits effective communication skills and understands how cultural factors influence patient interactions and care delivery.

Patient Population Served
Demonstrates expertise in the specific populations served by the department.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduation from an accredited diagnostic ultrasound or echo sonography program, demonstrating the necessary skills and knowledge for the role.

Preferred: One year of post-graduate experience in cardiac ultrasound or a proven high level of proficiency in diagnostic ultrasound.

Knowledge and Abilities

Familiarity with current principles, procedures, and techniques related to diagnostic sonographic examinations.

Understanding of the operation and application of sonographic equipment.

Awareness of standards and regulatory requirements relevant to sonographic examinations.

Knowledge of departmental protocols applicable to diagnostic assessments.

Understanding of medical terminology, anatomical positioning, physiology, and cross-sectional anatomy.

Ability to conduct sonographic procedures in cardiac examinations.


Ability to perform tasks in strict adherence to standards and assist physicians with certain techniques (e.g., ultrasonic needle guidance).

Exhibits support and service-oriented behavior.

Demonstrates organizational, time management, and prioritization skills to manage various responsibilities.

Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to utilize independent judgment to gather facts and achieve objectives.

Competent in using office equipment and automated systems/applications/software.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the role.

Licensure and Certification

Current registration by ARDMS or certification by Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS).

Current BLS Certification for healthcare providers.

Note for Non-Registered Echo Technologists

Employees without ARDMS registration (but who meet the core job qualifications) will be classified at this level and must obtain registration within one year of hire.

Pay Range

$62.09/hour
