Academic Advisor I

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Academic Advisor I to join our team at Southern Illinois University. As an Academic Advisor I, you will play a critical role in supporting the academic success of our students, providing guidance and mentorship to help them achieve their academic and career goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Establish a unique relationship with each student, focusing on their interests, abilities, and values to facilitate career decision-making during the academic advisement process.
• Assist students in developing an educational plan that relates to their choice of degree program.
• Help students understand the College's admission requirements, registration process, and other processes that need to be completed by the student.
• Teach students how to use the Banner Self-Registration (SSB) to build and manage a class schedule.
• Effectively utilize all platforms, including calendaring, electronic advising notations, reports, and other systems as required.
• Make referrals to appropriate campus offices and/or support programs in response to the academic and/or personal needs of students.
• Maintain academic advising communications and records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Participate in retention and recruitment initiatives as assigned.
• Participate in on- and off-campus orientation, advisement, and open house functions as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree by date of hire.
• Strong written communication skills.
