Engineering Project Manager

Colorado School of Mines is seeking an experienced Engineering Project Manager to join our team. As a key member of our Office of Design and Construction, you will be responsible for managing a portfolio of projects, including student housing, research labs, office redesigns, and classroom reconfigurations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop project scope, schedule, and budgets based on meetings with faculty and staff.
- Hire and direct outside professionals or develop design depending on the project.
- Apply engineering practices, codes, and standards to solve project-specific circumstances.
- Oversee bid process and contracting general contractors.
- Making field observations and/or directing staff to ensure projects are completed according to specifications and codes.
- Facilitate construction progress meetings, review change orders, and manage project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide design consultants with direction and communicate design review comments in writing.
- Communicate project status and individual tasks to the work unit.
- Qualify and select individuals and firms for professional services using Colorado State Buildings procedures.
- Make decisions regarding building modifications based on best architectural practices and knowledge of current building codes and standards.
- Make construction management decisions impacting project scope, schedule, and budget.
- Recommend future space needs based on space inventory data.
- Evaluate and approve or deny contractor change order pricing and pay applications.
- Negotiate design fees with professional consultants.
- Lead project teams in design and construction document development.
- Manage project budgets and schedules to ensure timely and budget-friendly project delivery.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in engineering from an accredited college or university.
- Five years of professional experience in design, construction project management, and/or construction administration.
- Fundamental of Engineering (FE) certification in the state of Colorado, with option to obtain certification within one year of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- More than five years of experience in mechanical or electrical engineering or project management.
- PE License or FE/EIT certification with ability to obtain PE license.
- Working knowledge of AutoCad and/or Revit.
- Knowledge of Colorado Revised Statutes, State Fiscal Rules, and State Buildings Programs.
