Position Overview:

Avalon Center is in search of a compassionate and skilled individual to fill the role of Housing Support Specialist. This position is dedicated to assisting individuals who have experienced domestic violence, guiding them towards secure housing and fostering their journey to independence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Housing Support:
    • Perform evaluations and intake processes for the Housing Support Program.
    • Create tailored plans aimed at ensuring housing security for clients.
    • Guide clients in identifying appropriate housing solutions.
  • Client Management:
    • Assist clients in establishing objectives and accessing essential services.
    • Work collaboratively with various service providers to address client needs.
    • Offer diverse support services, including legal assistance, medical referrals, safety planning, and more.
    • Keep comprehensive records of client interactions and progress.
  • Community Relations:
    • Build and maintain strong connections with local authorities, agencies, landlords, and utility providers.
    • Advocate for the Housing Support Program to potential housing partners.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree or relevant experience is advantageous.
  • Willingness to engage in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • Strong crisis intervention skills.
  • Exceptional communication and advocacy skills.
  • Dedication to combating power-based violence and understanding of trauma-informed practices.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current insurance.
  • Capability to meet physical demands such as standing, climbing stairs, driving, and lifting items up to 25 lbs.
