The Driver - SCM is tasked with operating a tractor-trailer or straight truck for both intrastate and interstate deliveries, ensuring the safe and timely transport of food and related products while adhering to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. The role involves professional interaction with customers, vendors, and colleagues, ensuring accurate and timely communication. Team collaboration within the department and organization is essential, and all assigned duties must be performed to best serve the company.
Key Duties Include:
- Conducting all necessary safety inspections (pre/post trip) of the tractor/truck and trailer as per DOT regulations, ensuring compliance with company safety standards.
- Reporting any safety concerns or required repairs promptly. Adhering to all DOT regulations and company driving policies.
- Identifying and reporting safety hazards immediately. Inspecting trailers for properly loaded and secured freight.
- Performing item count checks and verifying customer invoices for loaded products.
- Completing all required paperwork related to freight accurately and legibly.
- Positioning the tractor at the loading dock and attaching preloaded trailers as necessary.
- Driving to deliver customer orders according to a predetermined route schedule.
- Unloading products from the trailer and transporting them to designated storage areas at customer locations.
- Conducting damage control checks on items, scanning, and notifying supervisors about order removals per company policy.
- Verifying item delivery with customers and obtaining necessary signatures. Collecting payments (cash or checks) when required. Loading customer returns onto the trailer and securing trailer doors.
- Ensuring that the tractor, trailer, and freight are securely locked and protected at all times.
- Unloading damaged goods and customer returns, completing necessary paperwork, and maintaining cleanliness in trailers.
- Maintaining daily records of service hours and entering logs in compliance with Federal DOT, state, and company regulations.
- Performing general housekeeping duties in the tractor and loading dock area, ensuring trailers are kept clear and clean. Securing all equipment and completing paperwork at the end of the shift.
- Carrying out other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent.
- Minimum of 6 months of commercial tractor/trailer driving experience.
- Valid CDL-A license; candidates must be at least 21 years old.
- Compliance with all state licensing and certification requirements (if applicable).
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for the past three years.
- Successful completion of post-offer drug test and road test.
- Possession of a valid DOT Health Card or ability to obtain one.
- Capability to hand-lift and utilize equipment to move and stack product cases/freight of varying sizes and weights throughout the shift, typically ranging from 10-35 pounds and up to 60-90 pounds depending on location.
