Your Role and Responsibilities

The Ruby on Rails Software Engineer will play a pivotal role in leading and enhancing the development of current and future applications. This position encompasses both development tasks and providing exceptional customer service and support.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Developing and maintaining business applications, data scripts, and unit tests.
  • Diagnosing user issues, identifying root causes, proposing solutions, and implementing fixes.
  • Following the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) rigorously.
  • Assisting in software requirements gathering and documentation.
  • Conducting performance testing to ensure functionality and data integrity.
  • Proactively identifying potential application issues and implementing preventive strategies.
  • Documenting development and operational challenges for future reference.
  • Ensuring optimal performance output for both internal and external clients.
  • Managing the migration and implementation timelines for applications into production.
  • Collaborating with colleagues and third-party vendors in development groups.
  • Maintaining confidentiality regarding systems software under development or in use.

Qualifications and Skills

Required:

  • Proficiency in programming languages, particularly Ruby and JavaScript (ExtJS).
  • Strong expertise in Ruby on Rails.
  • Experience in an Amazon AWS hosting environment.
  • Familiarity with relational PostgreSQL databases.
  • Experience with automated unit testing frameworks.
  • Ability to automate tasks using appropriate tools and scripting.
  • Proficient in reviewing and debugging code.
  • Experience with Linux/Debian based operating systems.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (2-3 years of software development experience required; 3-6 years without a degree).

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of laboratory information systems and biobanking software.
  • Exposure to HL7, ASTM, bioinformatics, and life sciences.
  • Specific experience with Limfinity is a plus.
