Position Overview:
The MedSurg/Tele unit specializes in providing care on the 4th Floor, encompassing two distinct units (4A and 4B).
Nurse-Patient Ratios:
1:5 nurse to patient ratio
Key Responsibilities:
- Proficient in interpreting basic telemetry strips.
- Familiarity with Cerner is advantageous, with a brief orientation period provided.
- Experience in managing general and orthopedic surgical patients, as well as those with CVA and TIA conditions.
Job Qualifications:
- BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
- Competence in reading basic telemetry strips is essential.
- Prior experience with general and orthopedic surgical patients, CVA, and TIA is required.
Work Schedule:
- 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, including a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
- Schedules are created for a 4-week period.
- Self-scheduling is available but requires managerial approval.
- Two weekends are expected within each 4-week schedule.
- Holiday shifts will involve a mix of day and evening hours around significant holidays.
Unit-Specific Information:
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor roles are available; charge nurses do not carry a patient assignment.
- Nurse Aides are present on the unit, with ratios of 1:10-15.
- Equipment utilized includes Bipap, Cpap, high flow oxygen, and various breathing treatments.
- One shift of unit-specific orientation is required.
Additional Information:
- Patient demographics include those with COVID, respiratory issues, gastrointestinal conditions, diabetes, telemetry needs, TIA, CVA, as well as general, orthopedic, and spinal surgical patients.
- Registered Nurses are not required to titrate drips; however, they must interpret telemetry strips and document their findings at least once per shift.
