Supervisory Optometrist

Job Summary

This position serves as a Supervisory Optometrist who is responsible for the oversight of the eye care program in Pine Ridge, SD. The position supervises the Optometry department and provides direct patient care as an Optometrist.

Responsibilities

Oversees the eye care program and ensures department compliance with accrediting agencies and Service Unit policies.
Supervises Optometry staff, assigns work, and develops and implements performance evaluations.
Provides direct patient clinical care, diagnoses, treats, and manages eye conditions and diseases.

Requirements

A Doctor of Optometry degree from an educational program accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education (ACOE).
A current, full, and unrestricted license to practice optometry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
A passing score on the National Board of Examiners in Optometry (NBEO) examinations.

Working Conditions

This position meets the criteria specified in pillar number one of the five pillars of the PHS Commissioned Corps. The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty. Measles and Rubella immunization is required for selectees born after 1957, and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
