POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Operating Room Surgical Specialist, you play a vital role in the effectiveness and overall success of surgical procedures.
Your responsibilities include assisting the surgical team as the primary scrub technician, managing instruments, supplies, and equipment during operations, while ensuring sterilization at every stage of the process.
EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

DEPARTMENT:
Operating Room (OR)
WORK SCHEDULE:
Monday to Friday Days, with on-call duties that may include evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Note:
Orientation is full-time even if pursuing a part-time role.
QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of a military surgical technology program -OR- Grandfathering Clause: Evidence of employment as a surgical technologist in a healthcare facility for a cumulative period of one year, occurring between specified dates -OR- Graduation from a Commission of Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited program with a Surgical Technology major AND holding and maintaining Certified Surgical Technologist certification from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) within 12 months of graduation.
- Surgical Technologist Certification is not required for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) with current licensure in the State of New York.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain Continuing Medical Education (CME). Must complete at least 15 hours of CME annually.
Ensure Supply Availability & Sterilization. Confirm all supplies, instruments, and equipment are ready and sterilized for surgical procedures.
Assist in Orientation. Support the training of medical/nursing students and technicians in the unit.
Support Draping & Maintenance. Aid in draping procedures and ensure overall sterility in the operating room.
Contribute to Unit Development. Help establish goals and objectives for the unit.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing, or squatting.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES:
LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - New York State Education Department (NYSED)
CST - Certified Surgical Technologist - Association of Surgical Technologists (AST)
COMPENSATION RANGE:
$32.50
The listed base pay range reflects a good faith representation of potential base pay for successful candidates. It may be adjusted in the future. Compensation is influenced by factors such as experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contractual agreements.
