The Polysomnography Technician will execute all technical responsibilities within the sleep disorder laboratory under the guidance of the medical director and/or administrator, ensuring a thorough assessment of sleep disorders. Responsibilities may include conducting polysomnography (both in-lab and home sleep studies), delivering diagnostic and therapeutic services, coordinating home care, and providing patient education. The technician will also oversee other staff members and adeptly troubleshoot complex issues, demonstrating strong critical thinking skills for effective problem-solving. Flexibility to work at various locations may be required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and calibrate testing equipment to ensure optimal functionality, including the application of electrodes and sensors, and performing necessary physiological calibrations.
- Document routine observations, procedural changes, and significant events to aid in the scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results, ensuring thorough documentation during data collection.
- Monitor the quality of study tracings to guarantee artifact-free signals and make adjustments as needed, troubleshooting equipment when necessary.
- Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic measures, including continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure and oxygen administration.
- Conduct various procedures and therapeutic interventions as indicated by the information gathered during the study.
- Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of all equipment.
- Complete necessary documentation and billing paperwork.
- Manage inventory effectively.
- Score sleep study records in accordance with established scoring guidelines.
This position involves part-time night shifts, specifically two shifts per week from 7:30 PM to 9 AM.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required; Associate's Degree preferred.
- Valid NY State License or work permit as a polysomnographer.
- Preferred minimum of 6 months of relevant work experience.
- Current CPR/BCLS certification is required.
- Board Certification as a Polysomnographer (RPSGT) is required or must be obtained within one year of hire.
- Familiarity with home sleep study devices and polysomnography machines, along with EEG, EOG, EKG, motion sensors, respiration monitors, and other physiological monitoring equipment.
- Evening and night shift employees will work independently with patients.
