Arlington, Virginia, United States Riverside Research Full time

Company Overview

Riverside Research is a distinguished National Security Nonprofit committed to advancing research and development in the national interest. We specialize in delivering high-quality technical services, innovative research, and prototype solutions to address some of the most pressing technical challenges faced by the nation. All positions at Riverside Research necessitate U.S. Citizenship.

Position Summary

We are in search of a technically proficient individual with a background in designing, testing, integrating, and deploying commercial UxS and counter-UAS technologies, along with related enabling technologies for joint defense applications. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to provide state-of-the-art commercial technologies to the Department of Defense (DoD) while utilizing prior operational experience, knowledge of defense research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) fundamentals, and project management skills to prototype and enhance collaborative UxS and counter-UAS capabilities across the DoD and allied partners. Experience in supporting commercial and DoD programs focused on autonomous systems, particularly small UAS and counter-UAS, is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead teams in the design, execution, and management of projects aimed at integrating innovative commercial solutions to address joint DoD challenges.
  • Develop and implement acquisition packages following best practices and established policies, supporting the acquisition lifecycle from prototype awards to execution and closeout.
  • Provide technical and operational guidance on various autonomous systems projects, including multi-domain autonomous systems and technologies such as small UAS, robotics, counter-UAS, artificial intelligence (AI), and cybersecurity.
  • Utilize knowledge of technical systems and sensor platforms (e.g., optical, acoustic, radar detection sensors), commercial software/DevSecOps processes, and AI algorithms to educate end-users, validate commercial technology, and offer real-time feedback during testing and demonstrations.
  • Manage relationships with DoD stakeholders, innovation ecosystems, and commercial entities essential for successful program execution.
  • Leverage defense innovation networks to identify DoD challenges that can be addressed by commercial autonomous solutions, leading problem curation, acquisition, and funding strategies.
  • Engage in outreach and collaboration with commercial entities, academia, non-traditional vendors, DoD organizations, program offices, and technical experts.
  • Apply knowledge of relevant DoD technology policy and acquisition processes, translating that into timely transition and scaling opportunities across the DoD.
  • Understand how military services develop technology priorities and translate those into the private sector.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a technical or related field (e.g., Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science) with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience; or 12 years with a Master's Degree; or 8 years with a PhD.
  • At least 8 years of relevant experience in project or program management supporting RDT&E programs and national security missions.
  • Experience in supporting commercial AI or UxS technology development as a hardware/software engineer or product manager.
  • Demonstrated understanding of defense UxS technologies, platforms, and testing protocols, including experience in rapid-needs assessment and technology evaluation.
  • Prior military experience that enables the candidate to curate problems and define requirements with military end-users.
  • Experience leading collaborative teams to efficiently deliver project tasks and milestones.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and client-handling skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively within a cross-functional team under tight deadlines and high-pressure situations.
  • Possess impeccable character.
  • TS clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.

Desired:

  • Prior military experience that allows the candidate to curate problems and define requirements with military end-users.
  • Experience leading collaborative teams to rapidly iterate and deliver project tasks and milestones.
