About the Role

Vast is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Machine Shop Operations Manager to join our team. As a key member of our manufacturing department, you will be responsible for overseeing the efficient operation of our machine shop, ensuring productivity, quality standards, and safety protocols are upheld at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of machinists and programmers to achieve exceptional results.
  • Conduct daily team meetings to communicate goals and expectations, and coordinate work schedules and assignments to optimize productivity.
  • Work closely with manufacturing planners to ensure efficient scheduling and prioritization of jobs, and implement and oversee quality control measures.
  • Continual optimization of machining processes for efficiency, and collaborate with engineering teams and other departments for process improvements.
  • Coordinate repairs with the maintenance teams in a timely manner, and enforce safety protocols in the machine shop.
  • Identify training needs for the team, and develop and foster strong relationships with upper management.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with knowledge of machining processes, CNC equipment, and tooling.
  • Proven leadership abilities with a track record of team management, and previous experience in a supervisory role in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to standards.
  • Ability to analyze data and implement process improvements, and willingness to adapt to changing priorities and drive innovation within the organization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make timely decisions, and effective communication and collaboration skills.
Additional Requirements
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends to support critical mission milestones.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs unassisted.
