As a Financial Counselor at St. John's Riverside Hospital, you will play a vital role in ensuring that patients receive the financial support they need to access quality healthcare. Your key responsibilities will include:

• Screening self-pay patients to identify potential third-party benefits and coverage
• Representing patients and families in applying for benefits under state, county, and hospital programs
• Reviewing self-pay admissions daily to investigate for third-party coverage and ensuring patient demographic and insurance information is accurate
• Visiting inpatients designated as self-pay daily to screen for insurance coverage and possible Medicaid, QHP, and Health Solution applications
• Completing and mailing Medicaid applications following Department of Social Services guidelines
• Entering documentation of application processed in Meditech custom-defined fields
• Following up with the Department of Social Services on all patients with pending Medicaid applications
• Making phone calls to patients as required based on documentation or phone calls received from the Department of Social Services
• Processing all responses received from the Department of Social Services and State Marketplace in Meditech
• Completing Health Solution applications according to Hospital Charity Care Policy
• Maintaining and processing New Born List received from the State
• Reviewing all accounts for proper insurance coverage and sending LOIs as necessary to the Department of Social Services
• Checking mother and newborn Medicaid eligibility
• Compiling a pending application trial balance on a monthly basis to follow up on open accounts
• Performing clerical duties as demanded by the position
• Performing other duties as assigned

To be successful in this role, you will need:

• A minimum of a high school diploma or GED
• A minimum of 1 year of experience in processing Medicaid applications
• Excellent customer service skills
• Strong communication skills
• Knowledge of Word and Excel
• Proven analytical skills and problem-solving
• Certified Application Counselor Certification required upon hire or must be obtained within 90-day probationary period for continued employment
• Preferred experience in Hospital Business Office
• Bilingual preferred English and Spanish
