Senior Systems Engineer

Position Overview: As a pivotal member of the Sierra Space team, the Systems Engineer III will engage in the design, integration, and validation of secure ground networks for innovative space platforms. This role requires a deep understanding of ground control networks and their interfaces, as well as familiarity with both commercial and governmental terrestrial communication systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessing customer requirements and performance expectations to formulate ground network solutions.
  • Establishing ground network specifications, defining necessary interfaces, and conducting technical evaluations.
  • Creating integration and testing strategies for ground network systems while participating in verification and validation activities.
  • Collaborating with software teams to develop continuous integration and deployment pipelines for ground infrastructure.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong grasp of engineering principles and practices.
  • Experience in cross-disciplinary design and development teams.
  • Proficient in requirements management, systems design, integration, and technical risk management.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or higher in a relevant discipline.
  • Capability to design and implement automated DevSecOps systems using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Government cybersecurity standards and Risk Management Framework.
  • Proficient in using requirements management and model-based systems engineering tools.
  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies and tools.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, and others.
  • Experience with software unit testing and automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong communication skills for project reviews and technical documentation.
  • A collaborative mindset to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense sector.
  • Possession of an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance is preferred.

Physical and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to perform physical activities such as walking, standing, and climbing.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
  • Minimal exposure to outdoor elements and hazardous materials.
