Key Responsibilities- Lead the civil design effort on small to large projects, working closely with other engineers and design staff to develop innovative and cost-effective designs.
- Collaborate with our structural, mechanical, process, and electrical engineers and designers to deliver comprehensive project solutions.
- Work effectively with local and remote design team members to meet and exceed project schedule and quality goals.
- Assist in the civil discipline portions of business development activities, including developing civil scope and engineering level of effort estimates.
- Perform engineering work in coordination with the Civil Design Discipline team, including site investigations, data collection, and analysis.
- Review work of others for quality and resolve design and development problems.
- Prepare reports, specifications, plans, permits, and designs for projects, including hydrology and hydraulic calculations and modeling.
- Lead civil engineering designs, preparing reports, construction drawings, specifications, and calculations for a variety of project elements.
- Oversee and complete data collection, manipulation, analysis, and documentation.
- Conduct field work, including site investigations and construction observation duties, as necessary for various projects.
- Check performance or conformity with plans and specifications through field inspections as part of engineering services during construction.
- Perform submittal reviews, requests for information, correspondence, change requests, and change orders for construction projects.
- Communicate effectively and coordinate with project teams, including other disciplines, to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinate civil project work with surveyors, geotechnical, architectural, process, mechanical, and electrical engineers and consultants.
- Contribute to company standard detail and specification development and updates.
- Supervise employees, evaluating annual performance, managing performance, mentoring, and training.
- Mentor junior- and entry-level engineers.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering field required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years' professional experience in municipal and/or industrial civil design, including water and wastewater pipelines and site work, and construction administration preferred.
- Professional Engineering license is required, plus ability to obtain license in additional states as needed.
- Experience working with local and area permitting agencies to obtain site and storm water permits for industrial/municipal site development required.
- Demonstrated ability to use standard computer programs, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint, required.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
- Experience coordinating with staff performing Civil 3D is a plus.
- Experience using engineering calculation software, such as MathCAD, is a plus.
- Experience using hydrology and hydraulic calculations/modeling software, such as HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, Hydraflow Storm Sewers, etc., is a plus.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D, MEP/Revit a plus.
- Field/construction experience is a plus.
- GIS experience is a plus.
- Good technical skills with the ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and verbally.
- Good written and verbal communication skills essential.
