Job Title: Transit Planner II

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Transit Planner II to join our team at the Athens-Clarke County, GA. As a Transit Planner II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of our public transportation system. Your responsibilities will include developing and maintaining databases, serving as a liaison between agencies, preparing grant reports, and monitoring system performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain various databases of information needed to support ongoing or project-specific analysis, and ridership weekly, monthly and annual reporting.
  • Serve as liaison between the Athens Transit System and the Georgia Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration.
  • Prepare grant reporting documentation and other grant administration duties.
  • Complete required system reporting and development including, but not limited to, the National Transit Database, Transit Development Plan, Fare Revenues/Ridership and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise program.
  • Monitor and report on system performance including evaluating and making recommendations on technical aspects of transit planning and capital programming.
  • Assist the staff of the metropolitan planning organization (Madison Athens-Clarke Oconee Regional Transportation Study) with the development of the Transportation Improvement Program, the Long Range Transportation Plan, and other planning documents.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legislation and regulations.
  • Assist in development of the annual transit department budget.
  • Assist in marketing and public outreach activities, related to transit system development.
  • Reviews site plans and prepares comments for the Development Review Process.
  • Performs technical research and investigation needed for the preparation and completion of plans, reports, and programs.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Transit Planning and related software products.
  • Provides instruction and direction to the general public and department visitors; receives, responds to, or forwards departmental, governmental, or public correspondence by phone, mail, message, etc.
  • Attends various training workshops, conferences, and committee and public meetings which may require meeting at night or overnight travel; records minutes of meetings as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in urban/regional transit, transportation, or related planning field with two years of professional work related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for the job.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
