Job Summary:

The Irving ISD is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Special Education Assistant to join our team. As a Special Education Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities in a functional environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain confidentiality and keep accurate records of students with disabilities.
  • Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community.
  • Assist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required.
  • Assist special needs students with individual tasks, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene.
  • Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention.
  • Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs.
  • Work with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills through instructional activities under teacher direction.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies.
  • Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities.
  • Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Copier, facsimile, computer/peripherals, adaptive equipment.
