Job Opportunity: High School Speech Coach

Uncommon Schools Roxbury Prep is seeking a highly motivated and experienced High School Speech Coach to join our team.

Job Summary

The High School Speech Coach will be responsible for leading and guiding a team of students in the art of public speaking, debate, and competition. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in speech and debate, excellent communication skills, and the ability to motivate and inspire students to reach their full potential.

Responsibilities
  • Time Commitment: The High School Speech Coach will be required to commit up to 6 hours per week to the program, including:
  • Preparing students for projects, competitions, and after-school practices (2 hours/week)
  • Coaching students during 'projects' (meetings with students on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 hour/day, August to June)
  • Practicing with students outside of school hours (at least 6 hours/week)
  • Communicating with internal employees about absences due to team tournaments during work hours
  • Competitions: The High School Speech Coach will be responsible for:
  • Researching and selecting appropriate competitions and tournaments
  • Registering for competitions in partnership with the school-based Enrichment Program Manager
  • Traveling with students to all competitions
  • Participating in at least one nationally recognized competition with the possibility of competing on a national scale
  • Accompanying students to at least 2 regional/local competitions as preparation for the national competition
  • Family Communication: The High School Speech Coach will be responsible for:
  • Identifying team members and confirming commitment via signed parent permission form
  • Establishing a family communication protocol using a designated app to update families about club-related activities outside of school hours
Compensation

The High School Speech Coach will be compensated with an annual stipend based on experience and contracted hours per week, paid semi-monthly.

Please note that if the coach does not fulfill their responsibilities before completion, their stipend will be adjusted accordingly.
