Job Description

This is a skilled technical position that involves operating surveying instruments and related processing devices for field survey operations.

Nature of Work

The successful candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating total stations, theodolites, and transits to establish horizontal control, locating existing lines, creating construction and survey baselines, and determining the relationship of various surface features to each other.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up and operate levels to establish elevations for vertical control, construction layout, and to complete bench loops to establish and verify bench mark elevations.
  • Operate a data collector in conjunction with total station while performing as-built, topographic, boundary traverse, cross section, and construction lay-out surveys.
  • Act as survey party chief for designated periods of time and supervise Survey Technician I.
  • Attend work on a continuous and regular basis.
Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, and two years experience in land survey work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License required.
Selection Factors
  • Knowledge of techniques and practices of land surveying.
  • Knowledge of mathematics through the level of trigonometry and a working knowledge of data processing hardware and software.
  • Ability to perform as survey instrument person operating and maintaining varied equipment.
  • Ability to keep records of measurements and readings taken and reduce survey notes.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, maps, technical drawings, and manuals in performing survey operations and adapting to new equipment and techniques.
