Job Overview

As a key member of our engineering team, you will:

  • Enhance and sustain our Payment and Refund APIs, serving both external developers and Square's internal products, which are vital to our strategic initiatives.

  • Transform legacy financial APIs into modern, coherent service APIs that empower Square and our sellers' offerings.

  • Engage in agile methodologies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
  • Collaborate with product, business, and finance teams to craft Square's global payments vision.
  • Prioritize operational excellence, delivering resilient systems that allow our teams to innovate rapidly without compromising customer experience.
Qualifications

You possess:

  • A strong understanding and curiosity about building highly available, scalable, and low-latency global systems capable of securely processing billions of dollars.
  • Proven experience in leading complex projects, effectively breaking down tasks into manageable components for team collaboration.
  • A passion for transforming the payments landscape both in the U.S. and internationally.
  • A Bachelor's degree along with 5+ years of software development experience in Java, Go, or similar programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) in an enterprise setting.
  • Expertise in designing and managing fault-tolerant, high-throughput, low-latency services within a microservices architecture.
  • Background in the payments sector.
