As a key member of our engineering team, you will:
- Enhance and sustain our Payment and Refund APIs, serving both external developers and Square's internal products, which are vital to our strategic initiatives.
- Architect and develop high-volume, low-latency distributed systems for transaction processing, making informed decisions regarding trade-offs between consistency and availability.
- Transform legacy financial APIs into modern, coherent service APIs that empower Square and our sellers' offerings.
- Guide and mentor fellow engineers while shaping the team's strategic direction.
- Engage in agile methodologies, including daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives.
- Collaborate with product, business, and finance teams to craft Square's global payments vision.
- Prioritize operational excellence, delivering resilient systems that allow our teams to innovate rapidly without compromising customer experience.
You possess:
- A strong understanding and curiosity about building highly available, scalable, and low-latency global systems capable of securely processing billions of dollars.
- Proven experience in leading complex projects, effectively breaking down tasks into manageable components for team collaboration.
- A passion for transforming the payments landscape both in the U.S. and internationally.
- A Bachelor's degree along with 5+ years of software development experience in Java, Go, or similar programming languages.

- Experience with JVM languages (Java, Kotlin) in an enterprise setting.
- Expertise in designing and managing fault-tolerant, high-throughput, low-latency services within a microservices architecture.
