Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist surgeons during surgical procedures, including exposure, hemostasis, suturing, and tissue manipulation.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Assume responsibility for patient care and safety during surgical procedures, under the supervision of a registered nurse.
  • Facilitate communication between the surgeon, perioperative team, and other hospital departments.

Requirements:

  • Graduate from an accredited surgical technologist program.
  • Completion of an accredited program for First Assisting.
  • Certified Surgical Technician (CST) preferred.
  • Completion of required clinical experience during education process is required.
  • BCLS certification.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Manual dexterity for assisting skills.
  • Ability to work irregular hours.
  • Ability to maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Current knowledge of nursing practices/procedures related to care of surgical patients.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to foster good working relationships with other departments and OR staff members.

Physical Demands:

  • Heavy: Exerts 50-100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or ten to 20 pounds of force continuously to move objects.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional carrying, climbing of stairs, and exposure to dust, fumes or gas.
  • Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and twisting.
