Job Summary

As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer at CAMC Health System, you will play a critical role in assisting physicians with the detection of anatomical abnormalities using high-frequency ultrasound waves. This position requires a strong foundation in medical imaging and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of complex specialized tasks utilizing ultrasonic high-frequency sound waves to detect abnormalities, including masses, abscesses, and stones.
  • Utilize accessory equipment such as transducers, multi-format cameras, printers, and PACS workstations.
  • Prepare patients for procedures, explain procedures to patients, and report changes in patient condition to medical staff.
  • Provide an oral and written summary of preliminary findings to the radiologist and evaluate the quality of sonograms.
  • Assist in training of Rad Tech/Ultrasound students during clinical rotations and maintain patient records.
  • Charge procedures and supplies, archive and de-archive ultrasound data, and perform other related duties incidental to the work.
  • Assist physicians with biopsy procedures, guiding biopsy instruments using sonographic techniques, and perform ultrasound procedures, doppler vascular examinations, abdominal studies, and color-flow ultrasound, OBGYN procedures as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment, or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically, the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.

Common Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain and document all applicable required education.
  • Demonstrate positive customer service and co-worker relations.
  • Comply with the company's attendance policy.
  • Participate in the continuous, quality improvement activities of the department and institution.
  • Perform work in a cost-effective manner.
  • Perform work in accordance with all departmental pay practices and scheduling policies, including but not limited to, overtime, various shift work, and on-call situations.
  • Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization.
  • Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Education

Formalized training is defined as a graduate of an AMA-approved School of Radiologic Technology, Nuclear Medicine Technology, or successful completion of an Ultrasonography program enabling the graduate to sit for the ARDMS exam.

Credentials

Basic Life Support certification is required within 30 days of hire, and Amer Reg Diag Med Sonographers certification is required within 15 months of hire.
