Job Description

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at Hillsborough County (Florida). As a LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and supporting the health and well-being of our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist registered nurses with medical care and procedures
  • Monitor medical chart updates and report any changes or concerns to supervisors
  • Administer medications as directed by physicians and record any adverse reactions
  • Clean and dress wounds, and assist with the coordination and facilitation of wellness presentations and support groups
  • Work as part of the interdisciplinary team to assist with care plans and provide nursing assessments within your scope of practice

Duties Specific to Aging Services:

  • Ensure client safety by observing and participating in activities planned to maintain and enhance client health
  • Assist with supervisory roles at the center, supporting staff and nursing assistants, and ensuring the center is within established participant-to-staff compliance ratios
  • Document medication administration promptly and accurately, and maintain up-to-date Medication Administration Records (MAR)
  • Provide supervision to all participants, report adverse incidents or occurrences to RN and appropriate personnel, and maintain bio-hazardous books and documents

Duties Specific to Head Start:

  • Work with the health team and all other Head Start staff to achieve the goal of optimum health for children and link families into ongoing health/mental health care sources
  • Observe daily health status of children, follow up on problems noted with staff, parents, and professionals, and utilize RN for technical assistance
  • Perform required health screenings, maintain current physical and dental reports, and assist families in obtaining identified medical care

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of health and wellness education, CPR, First Aid, and AED
  • Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures, basic office practices and procedures, customer service practices and procedures, and State of Florida licensure requirements
  • Knowledge of medications, drugs, and narcotics and their effects, nursing theory, techniques, and practices, and general pediatric nursing care
  • Ability to assess health and wellness program needs, prepare corresponding programs, schedule, coordinate, and conduct health and wellness programs for participants, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and perform emergency cardiopulmonary resuscitation and first aid

Physical Requirements:

  • Physical effort involving standing, sitting, or walking, ability to bend, stoop, kneel, stretch, and reach

Additional Requirements:

  • Maintain the ability to pass background checks required for the position, including criminal history background checks, Level 1 and Level 2 background screening, child abuse, abandonment, and neglect record checks, and sex offender and sexual predator record checks
  • Possess necessary job-related licenses or certifications, including a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL)

Work Environment:

This position requires working in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. The LPN must be able to work effectively in a team setting, communicate clearly and concisely, and maintain confidentiality of all family and child records and matters relating to families.
