We are seeking a highly skilled Radiochemist II to join our team at Eckert & Ziegler Isotope Products, Inc. in Atlanta, GA.
Job Summary:The Radiochemist II will be responsible for manufacturing radioactive calibration standards, checking sources and proficiency testing samples, and providing support to our traceability program.
Key Responsibilities:- Manufacture calibration standards, check sources, and proficiency testing samples.
- Manufacture sources to support Counting Laboratory and NIST MAP/traceability program.
- Produce mixed isotope batches, e.g., MGS, TCC, GRS, A/F, and others.
- Perform gas and solution calibrations, reviews, and sign Certificates of Calibration.
- Maintain laboratory environment, equipment, radionuclide, and chemical inventories.
- Order chemicals and laboratory supplies.
- Plan quarterly performance testing program.
- Evaluate data and perform some troubleshooting.
- Perform technical inspection of incoming radioactive material.
- Perform QC-related measurements and maintain some nuclear counting instruments.
- Support compliance to the Quality Management System in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 17025, ISO 17043, and the EZA Quality Manual.
- Perform laboratory radioactive waste collection and consolidation and perform clean-up of minor spills.
- Review, revise, and write procedures.
- Train new employees.
- Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: 4-year degree in Chemistry or related discipline, or 5 years related experience in radiochemistry and standard preparation.
- Minimum experience required: 3 years combining wet radiochemistry (analytical balance operation, dilutions, pipetting), basics of nuclear counting methodology, and nuclear physics experience a plus.
- Abilities and skills required:
- Ability to read and understand professional documents.
- Basic laboratory skills and ability to work in compliance with Good Laboratory Practices.
- Must be detail-oriented and possess ability to exercise caution when working with open radioactive materials.
- Knowledge of mathematical concepts such as algebra, geometry, probability, and statistical inference.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; Nuclear data software.
- Ability to work with power tools and machinery a plus.
