Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team at the Anne Arundel Health Department. As a School Health LPN, you will play a vital role in providing quality healthcare services to students in our schools.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer medication as ordered by a physician and delegated by a school nurse (RN).
  • Provide first aid, including CPR, to students and staff.
  • Maintain accurate records of health room visits.
  • Assist school nurses (RNs) in reviewing and following up on immunization records and health inventories.
  • Provide screening for nuisance conditions and assist with screening for vision and hearing.
  • Assist in preparing accident or health reports as necessary.
  • Provide healthcare procedures such as catheterization, gastrostomy tube feedings, tracheostomy suctioning, and other non-delegatable treatments or procedures when necessary.
  • Assist students with activities of daily living, such as toileting, positioning, feeding, transferring, etc., under the supervision of a school nurse (RN). These activities may include lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Respond quickly to medical emergencies in the school building and school grounds, which may include running and/or carrying emergency medical equipment to the response location.
  • Perform emergency medical care to students and staff as needed, including but not limited to performing CPR, administering Naloxone, and auto-injectable Epinephrine while kneeling on the floor.
  • Assist in monitoring students' health status and report changes to school nurses and parents as indicated.
  • Assist in monitoring school staff's health status and track/report changes to school nurses and/or appropriate individuals as indicated.
  • Assist students with special equipment required for participation in school to meet health and educational goals.
  • Exercise appropriate judgment in dealing with students, parents, administrators, other employees, and the general public.
  • Attend work as scheduled and demonstrate commitment to the organization.
  • Maintain current Maryland licensure as an LPN.
  • Perform other specialized duties as assigned based on assignment.

  • Education: Determined by the Maryland Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Practical Nurses.
  • Experience: None
  • License: Must possess a current license as a Practical Nurse from the Maryland Board of Nursing.
