Job Summary

The Village of Tequesta is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Rescue Chief to lead its Fire-Rescue department. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing the daily operations of the department, ensuring the protection of life and property in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement long-term and short-term plans to achieve departmental goals and objectives.
  • Direct and review the activities of personnel performing prevention, suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), rescue operations, and disaster preparedness services.
  • Make recommendations to the Village Manager and Council for the maintenance of the EMS and fire defense systems and initiate and advise on the revision of related ordinances and regulations.
  • Function as the Village of Tequesta Emergency Operations Director, responsible for developing, executing, and maintaining the Village's Emergency Operations Plan.
  • Coordinate, prepare, and present the annual budget for the department and assume full administrative responsibility for its implementation within the fiscal and operational guidelines.
  • Establish training programs and standards to ensure personnel are skilled in fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical techniques and ensure that all department personnel meet certification and continuing education requirements.
  • Develop department performance standards, including the care and maintenance of the station and equipment; review effectiveness and formulate policies and practices to correct identified problems; conduct post-incident reviews and investigations to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Direct the development and maintenance of systems, records, and legal documents that provide for the proper evaluation, control, and documentation of the Fire-Rescue Department operations, ensuring compliance with changing requirements in local, county, state, and federal laws.
  • Manage the general conduct and behavior of department personnel, supervise internal affairs investigations, and handle grievances.
  • Serve as the primary representative of the fire department: meet with elected officials, Fire-Rescue officials, community, and business representatives, and the public as necessary regarding various aspects of the department's activities.
  • Represent the Village Fire-Rescue Department in a variety of local, county, state, and other meetings.
  • Evaluate internal and external environment for development of new service opportunities and partnerships, produce related feasibility studies/business plans, including budgets, and implement plan where approved; assess operational variables to determine their ability to support the development of additional partner services.
  • Attend meetings, activities, and events that support and highlight new service growth and develop an evaluation process to gain feedback from stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with formal coursework in fire science, fire service technology, public administration, or a related field (Masters preferred).
  • 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in Fire-Rescue Service; and 5 years in Fire-Rescue supervisory role over support Fire-Rescue personnel.
  • Any equivalent combination of education, qualification, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job may be substituted for minimum qualifications.
Licensing and Certification
  • Certified Florida Firefighter (per F.S.S. 633).
  • State of Florida Paramedic Certification.
  • State of Florida Certified Fire Officer.
  • State of Florida Certified Fire Inspector.
  • State of Florida Certified Fire Instructor.
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800.
  • Valid and current State of Florida Driver's License.
Working Conditions

The job requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to emergency situations. The successful candidate must be able to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 100 pounds and work in a variety of environmental conditions, including extreme temperatures, noise, and hazardous materials.
