Position Summary
The Operations Manager is accountable for the safe and efficient functioning of all assigned production lines. This role involves prioritizing work assignments for manufacturing associates and Process Engineers to effectively support production operations. The Shift Supervisors report directly to this position. The Operations Manager is responsible for cultivating a team-oriented work environment to achieve plant and company objectives while participating in initiatives that enhance the growth and development of all manufacturing personnel. Key areas of focus include safety, environmental compliance, productivity, quality assurance, maintenance, Lean Six Sigma initiatives, and financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
• **Safety and Environmental Performance:** Communicates expectations; conducts audits, investigates and documents incidents; leads safety meetings; actively participates in the overall EHS program.
• **Production Management:** Determines personnel requirements and assigns staff to ensure efficient operations; monitors production metrics including run rates, changeovers, and scrap; collaborates with maintenance, quality, and warehouse teams to meet production goals; troubleshoots process issues and determines corrective actions; participates in the development and revision of operating procedures.
• **Quality Assurance:** Reviews laboratory test results for finished goods; assesses in-process test results; identifies necessary adjustments to running conditions; collaborates with technical support as needed; engages in customer audits and trials; participates in complaint investigations.
• **Staffing and Development:** Involved in staffing activities including interviewing and selection; conducts performance evaluations for direct reports; recommends promotions and wage increases; identifies personnel development needs; manages disciplinary discussions; develops and communicates production schedules.
• **Maintenance Coordination:** Supports the Reliability Program by coordinating maintenance activities; audits equipment checklists to ensure proper monitoring; ensures work orders are created and scheduled appropriately.
• **Financial Oversight:** Understands and manages financial performance related to manufacturing costs for assigned lines.
• **Lean Six Sigma Initiatives:** Drives Lean Six Sigma projects to enhance overall performance for assigned lines.
• **Additional Duties:** Undertakes other projects and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of leadership experience, Lean Six Sigma, and process improvement.
- Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and other relevant software.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage responsibilities effectively.
- Must be able to read and comprehend written and verbal instructions in English; understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Effective one-on-one communication skills with team members.
- Self-motivated team player with strong organizational and stress management skills.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and analytical abilities.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to stand, use hands for handling or feeling, and reach with arms. Frequent walking is required, along with occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and talking or hearing. Employees may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employees may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, and airborne particles. Noise levels in the work environment may range from normal office sounds to loud.
Environmental, Health, Safety, & Security (EHS&S) Responsibilities
- Avient integrates EHS&S into all operational aspects. Each position is responsible for adhering to all applicable EHS&S requirements and reporting incidents promptly to maintain EHS&S as a priority.
