About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Child Development Specialist at Head Start for Kent County. As a key member of our educational staff, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality services to children five and under, promoting their well-being and development.

Responsibilities
  • Implement a culturally-responsive, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate curriculum that aligns with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework.
  • Assist in the implementation of the designated curriculum, ensuring strong fidelity and alignment with the Agency's School Readiness Goals.
  • Conduct agency screenings and assessments, maintaining reliability in current assessment tools.
  • Responsible for gathering and entering children's assessment data, assigning preliminary levels in online assessment tools.
  • Enter documentation in our data management software, ChildPlus, as required by the Agency.
  • Ensure the safety of the classroom and outdoor environment, including active supervision, hand washing, and emergency procedures.
  • Implement positive redirection and behavior guidance, carrying out daily routines, and instructing children in personal hygiene practices.
  • Prepare and serve meals and snacks, creating a relaxed, family-style dining experience.
  • Maintain a classroom environment meeting the Agency's expectations, including CLASS scores.
  • Provide feedback for ongoing evaluation and training of staff and volunteers.
  • Empower parents by enhancing parenting skills and parent-child relationships.
  • Participate in family engagement events, supporting parent involvement in program implementation.
  • Conduct education home visits and family conferences, involving parents in individual goal setting.
  • In the absence of the Teacher, take a leadership role in classroom operations.
  • Assist in recruitment, enrollment, and orientation of Head Start families.
  • Maintain knowledge and use of current Agency processes, procedures, and forms.
  • Implement the tiered support model to identify and follow up on family needs.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities and Professional Learning Community meetings.
