Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Speech Language Pathology Assistant to join our team at Compton Unified School District. The successful candidate will provide speech therapy services to students with speech and language disabilities, working under the supervision of a credentialed Speech-Language Specialist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide speech therapy services to students with speech and language disabilities, following Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and treatment plans.
  • Assist Speech-Language Specialists with conducting speech-language screenings and assessments, and confer with them regarding student progress.
  • Document student progress toward IEP goals and objectives, preparing records, logs, and other documentation as needed.
  • Provide assistance to educational staff as a case management team member, through consultation, training, and individual and group activities.
  • Prepare therapy materials and equipment for use during therapy, adapting or modifying instructional materials as determined by student needs.
  • Inspect, maintain, and operate augmentative alternate communication devices and equipment, and assist Speech-Language Specialists in the research and selection of appropriate devices, software, and equipment.
  • Attend IEP meetings with a Speech-Language Specialist to provide information as requested, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information.
  • Perform a variety of student case management support duties, including maintaining records, files, and preparing reports related to assigned students.
Requirements
  • Associate of Arts degree and a certificate of completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant Program, or proof of current registration with the State of California Department of Consumer Affairs Board of Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology.
  • Six months of experience working with individuals with speech and language disabilities in a structured environment, or any other combination of training and/or experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge, or abilities.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.
