JOB SUMMARY

The Dentist delivers comprehensive dental care to patients, encompassing the diagnosis and treatment of oral diseases, pediatric dentistry, prosthodontics, operative dentistry, oral surgery, and endodontics.



ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Conducts thorough oral assessments utilizing radiographs, periodontal evaluations, and impressions.
  • Records and documents extraoral and intraoral findings related to hard and soft tissues.
  • Provides comprehensive dental care for patients across all age groups, including those with complex medical histories and pregnant individuals.
  • Develops, discusses, and finalizes treatment plans in collaboration with patients.
  • Performs tooth extractions, root canal treatments, and cavity removals, as well as prepares teeth for fillings using materials such as amalgam and composite.
  • Restores teeth affected by decay through various restorative techniques, including crowns and fixed partial dentures, in alignment with agreed treatment plans.
  • Diagnoses and manages pathological dental conditions, prescribes medications for dental diseases, administers local anesthesia, and takes dental radiographs.
  • Creates dental appliances, including dentures, partials, minor orthodontic devices, crowns, and inlays.
  • Offers patient education and guidance on oral health practices.
  • Ensures timely and accurate documentation to maintain up-to-date patient records.
  • Provides training to staff on relevant dental procedures and applications to enhance staff competency.
  • Addresses emergency dental cases and performs necessary procedures to alleviate immediate discomfort.
  • Adheres to established policies, procedures, and protocols in all activities.
  • Acts as a clinical leader and resource, fostering a positive work atmosphere and supporting departmental and organizational changes.
  • Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Supervises dental student externs in delivering comprehensive dental services.
  • Maintains regular attendance during scheduled hours to fulfill essential job functions.
  • Reviews and meets ongoing competency standards to sustain the skills and knowledge necessary for the role.

  • Performs other assigned duties as needed.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION


For positions requiring education beyond a high school diploma or equivalent, educational qualifications must be from an institution accredited by the Council for Higher Education and Accreditation.



Minimum Required:
Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required:
None

Preferred/Optional: Previous experience in a dental setting.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES

The following licensure(s), certification(s), registration(s), etc., are required for this position. Licenses with restrictions are subject to review to determine if restrictions are substantially related to the position.

Minimum Required:

Must hold or be eligible to obtain and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice in the State of Wisconsin.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association within three months of hire.

Preferred/Optional:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification awarded by the American Heart Association at time of hire.

PATIENT POPULATIONS SERVED

Individuals hired are expected to serve patients of various ages and backgrounds.

When performing the essential functions of the role, the individual must identify the patient age group to be served and apply the appropriate care based on the patient's age and background.

The hiring manager is responsible for communicating the patient population generally encountered in the role and ensuring the appropriate cultural, age, and related training needed to serve the patient populations.
