Job Title: Hotline Resident Advocate

Join our team at Turning Point, Inc. as a Hotline Resident Advocate, where you will play a critical role in providing support, safety planning, and resources to callers, including those who are limited-English speaking or hearing impaired.

Job Summary:

The Hotline Resident Advocate will implement agency and program mission and empowerment philosophy, administer and implement agency policies and procedures, and maintain agency policy on confidentiality, record keeping and professional ethics. This role requires a critical and analytical thinker who can work well with diverse and multi-disciplinary teams, communicate and write effectively, be highly organized, flexible, able to troubleshoot, and must be resourceful.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to calls on the agency's 24-hour hotline and provide crisis support and counseling to hotline callers and shelter residents.
  • Dispatch First Responders and Forensic Nurse Examiners as needed.
  • Process phone and in-person intakes for shelter and assess danger of client situation and safety planning.
  • Assess lethality of suicidal clients and take appropriate action.
  • Maintain records of calls and service to shelter residents and provide information and referrals to callers and residents.
  • Provide for the safety and security of the shelter, its residents and staff.
  • Must complete all duties on resident advocate 'Mandatory Daily Log' and maintain referral manuals.
  • Must be able to work midnight shifts for the on-call emergency midnight schedule and regularly attend all staff meetings, in-services and workshops.
  • Coordinate services with other shelter units and with other departments in the organization.
  • Conduct relationships with staff to promote mutual respect, improvement of services, and interdepartmental program development.
  • Notify the Director of Hotline, Deputy Director, or CEO of any emergency situations that may affect Turning Point staff and clients.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Services, Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
  • At least 1-3 years of experience in the field of social services, sexual assault crisis counseling, and/or hotline/intervention experience.
  • Proven experience with trauma-informed direct services and cultural competency in working with diverse populations.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check and have reliable transportation, auto insurance, a valid Michigan Driver's License, and a good driving record.
Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work independently and as a team member.
  • Allows for flexibility in schedule and job function adapting work to needs of residents.
  • Ability to climb stairs and lift 20-30 lbs.
