Job Summary:

As an EP Tech at Advocate Health, you will play a critical role in the development of new high-risk, low-volume procedures in Interventional Cardiology. You will assist in establishing workflow and train as a super-user for new complex procedures and studies. Your collaboration with the Educator, Leadership, and Physicians will be essential for implementation and reassessment processes. Additionally, you will be involved in the education of new staff once procedures are FDA-approved or performed routinely.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate all monitoring, recording, and related equipment used during procedures.
  • Collect and prepare pertinent data for use by physicians/staff.
  • Perform device preparation and ensure appropriate equipment availability for procedures.
  • Monitor patient electrocardiogram for cardiac dysrhythmias and operate the defibrillator when required.
  • Provide assistance in emergency situations.
  • Assist in pre and post-procedure activities related to equipment and patient care.
  • Position patients and select exposure factors for all radiographic procedures performed in the department.
  • Identify cardiovascular and peripheral vascular anatomy for documentation purposes.
  • Perform initial troubleshooting on equipment and arrange maintenance as necessary.
  • Prepare, deliver, and pick up reusable items for re-sterilization.
  • Prepare and operate imaging, angiographic, interventional, and storage systems.
  • Scrubs to assist physicians with diagnostic, interventional, and surgical procedures.
  • Work in collaboration with department leadership, physicians, research, and other departments to establish best practices for new procedures.
  • Develop, train, and administer competencies to staff.
  • Facilitate clinical problem-solving and collaborate with other departments to provide education on managing patients after procedures.

Requirements:

  • Cardiac Device Specialist (CCDS) certification issued by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), or
  • Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist registration (RCIS) issued by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI), or
  • Electrophysiology Specialist (CEPS) certification issued by the International Board of Heart Rhythm Examiners (IBHRE), or
  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months, and
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.

Education:

  • Associate's Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or related field, or
  • Associate's Degree in Radiologic Technology.

Experience:

  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in a cardiac catheterization lab performing cardiac monitoring, panning, and scrubbing.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Completed certification/number of proctored cases required by respective companies for at least one new complex procedure with the recommendation from a Medical Director, Section Chief, or Physician Champion.
  • Advanced skills required for complex wire and device use.
  • Completion of vendor-specific equipment training.
  • Completion of an approved basic ECG interpretation course within three months of hire.
  • Ability to be self-directed, motivated, and detail-oriented.
  • Advanced technical skills in monitoring, scrubbing, and panning with proficiency in both Catheterization and Electrophysiology procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly change priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to work effectively with physicians, patients, and other staff members.
  • Basic computer skills.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders frequently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
  • May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards as well as blood and body fluids; therefore, personal protective equipment must be worn as necessary.
  • Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
