Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Excess Casualty Claims Handler to join our team at AXA XL Ltd. As a key member of our Claims team, you will play a critical role in managing and resolving complex claims for our Excess Casualty team.

As an Excess Casualty Claims Handler, you will be responsible for managing assigned claims across multiple jurisdictions, setting case strategies, and collaborating with Regional Practice Leaders and Claims management to achieve the best possible outcomes for AXA XL and its clients.

You will work closely with your manager and fellow Claims Handlers to drive files to resolution and interact with Regional Practice Leaders and the Underwriting team to ensure seamless communication and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage assigned claims across multiple jurisdictions, setting case strategies in partnership with Regional Practice Leaders and Claims management.
  • Obtain coverage determinations from underlying carriers and analyze the applicability of coverage to the facts of each claim under the terms of the AXA XL policy.
  • Establish and maintain close communications with underlying carriers and defense counsel, providing input and direction as warranted, to protect the interests of the insured and AXA XL.
  • Partner with internal and external counsel in setting and pursuing effective and cost-efficient litigation strategies for claims in litigation.
  • Assist underwriters with policy drafting initiatives, new business, and renewal meetings.
  • Coordinate and manage communications with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the highest level of customer service.
  • Produce internal reporting and ensure that reserves are set according to best practice guidelines.
  • Identify, monitor, and report on emerging liability and coverage trends.
Requirements
  • Broad excess casualty claims experience, including intermediate to advanced experience managing Excess claims, high exposure, and complex claims.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills, with the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at various levels of sophistication.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to develop productive working relationships with insured, brokers, claim handlers, underwriters, and legal counsel.
  • Ethical behavior, with a commitment to handling responsibilities with integrity and the highest standards of professionalism.
  • A passion for results, with the ability to approach tasks proactively, anticipate needs, and prioritize multiple work streams without sacrificing quality.
  • Intellectual curiosity, with a willingness to ask questions, explore new ideas, and continuously improve technical skills.
  • Bachelor's degree required, JD preferred.
