Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Consultant plays a vital role in our Primary Care Medical Home or Specialty Care treatment team, providing expert integrated care to pediatric and adult patients. This specialist delivers high-volume services from a population-based lens, accessible, team-based, and a routine part of primary care. The Behavioral Health Consultant thrives in a fast-paced, highly productive setting, adapting to pivot from patient-facing to physician-facing roles throughout the day. Key responsibilities include applying biopsychosocial models of human behavior and development for patient assessment, screening for and identifying substance abuse problems, and providing first-line interventions in a time-limited setting for a broad spectrum of physical and mental health problems. The ideal candidate will possess a Master's degree in a mental health-related field, with a minimum of two years of post-graduate clinical experience in an integrated care delivery system. A strong understanding of cultural competency and the ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team are essential. The Behavioral Health Consultant will also be responsible for providing patient and family education, effectively utilizing electronic health records, and communicating relevant information to medical providers in a timely manner. Additionally, this role will involve assessing for and managing suicidal and homicidal risk, as well as concerns for child or elder abuse and neglect. A high level of comfort in providing consultation and training to other members of the primary care team is also required.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Apply biopsychosocial models of human behavior and development for patient assessment.
  • Screen for and identify substance abuse problems.
  • Provide first-line interventions in a time-limited setting for a broad spectrum of physical and mental health problems.
  • Provide patient and family education effectively and sensitively to encourage compliance with medical and behavioral treatment plans.
  • Effectively utilize electronic health records and verbal communication to concisely communicate relevant information to medical providers in a timely manner.
  • Assess for and manage suicidal and homicidal risk, as well as concerns for child or elder abuse and neglect.
  • Provide consultation and training to other members of the primary care team.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in a mental health-related field.
  • Minimum of two years of post-graduate clinical experience in an integrated care delivery system.
  • Strong understanding of cultural competency.
  • Ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team.
