Job Title: Afterschool Counselor

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $12.50 per hour

Experience:

  • 1 year of experience working with children (Preferred)
  • 1 year of experience in childcare (Preferred)

Requirements:

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Meets minimum age standards as established by state law and/or the Y
  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications required
  • Child Abuse Prevention training required within 30 days of hire
  • Previous experience working with children in an afterschool setting preferred
  • Previous experience working with diverse populations
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
  • Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

Job Summary:

The Afterschool Counselor at YMCA of Natrona County supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The counselor maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals, promotes the potential of all youth, and provides a quality experience to both youth and their families.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises a group of children and program activities
  2. Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the Y
  3. Nurtures children through purposeful programming
  4. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth
  5. Provides opportunities for youth to lead, problem-solve, and make decisions and choices within the program
  6. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child's needs and progress
  7. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training
