Diesel Mechanic Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply mechanical knowledge to power generation applications.
  • Perform diesel engine repairs, including locomotive engines.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions, using test instruments and advanced diagnostic tools.
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
  • Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and rear ends.
  • Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
  • Read job orders and observe operating equipment to ensure conformance to specifications or to determine malfunctions.
  • Attach test instruments to equipment and read dials and gauges to diagnose malfunctions.
  • Adjust brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
  • Change oil, check batteries, repair tires and tubes, and lubricate equipment and machinery.
  • Operate valve-grinding machine to grind and reset valves.
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in diesel mechanics.
  • Commitment to quality work and adherence to safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a non-temperature controlled environment.
  • Manual lifting up to 50lbs.
  • Standing for 10 hours at one time.
  • Working up to 10 hours of overtime per week.

  • Mechanical knowledge.

  • Overhaul transmissions.
  • Read and speak English.

Qualifications:
