Job Summary
MedStar Health is seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant to join our team in an ambulatory care setting. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service and patient interaction skills, as well as certification as a Medical Assistant.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform clinical and administrative duties under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse.
- Assist providers with patient preparation, office procedures, examination, and education of patients.
- Support the clinical care team, ensuring optimal best-practice patient flow and managing patient volume.
- Review and prepare for scheduled patient visits, screen patients for preventative care needs, and conduct surveillance for transitions of care.
- Conduct motivational interviews, including patient screening/coaching on disease management, motivation to change, learning care needs, and community outreach needs.
- Identify potential behavioral health needs of patients and notify providers of findings.
- Participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve care quality and safety.
- Ensure ongoing compliance by maintaining and auditing temperature logs, ensuring medication supplies are current/unexpired, checking and maintaining emergency equipment, and other related tasks.
- Perform selected patient/laboratory testing, including Point of Care Testing, tuberculosis skin testing, electrocardiography, pulmonary function tests, vision, and hearing testing.
- Remove sutures/staples, document activities in the patient's electronic medical record (EMR), and perform required patient follow-up.
- Collect and process specimens, complete requisitions, and document.
- Provide escort and assist with patient discharge activities, provide chaperoning, and fulfill infection prevention and environmental responsibilities as assigned.
- Update appropriate records of scheduled equipment maintenance and manage drug and medical supply inventories.
- Provide telephone screening services to gather information from patients, determine appropriate disposition, and document per established telephone screening protocols.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists within 1 year.
- Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
