Medical-Surgical Nurse

The Detox/Addictions Nurse is a critical member of our dedicated healthcare team at The Dimock Center.
This role involves assessing, planning, and providing care to individuals undergoing detoxification from substances.
As a medical-surgical nurse, you will play a vital role in addressing the complex medical needs of patients during their detoxification process.
Responsibilities:
Assessment and Monitoring:
Conduct thorough physical and psychological assessments of patients upon admission to the detoxification unit.
Monitor vital signs, withdrawal symptoms, and overall patient condition, and respond promptly to any changes or emergent situations.
Utilize your medical-surgical knowledge to identify and manage co-occurring medical conditions that may impact the detox process.
Patient Care:
Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians to alleviate withdrawal symptoms and manage medical issues.
Implement evidence-based nursing interventions to ensure patient safety, comfort, and well-being during the detoxification process.
Provide emotional support and education to patients and their families about the detox process and potential complications.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, therapists, social workers, and counselors, to develop individualized detox plans for patients.
Communicate effectively with team members to coordinate care, report patient progress, and address any concerns.
Documentation:
Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records, documenting assessments, interventions, medications administered, and patient responses.
Ensure compliance with legal and ethical standards related to patient confidentiality and record-keeping.
Education and Training:
Stay updated on the latest advancements and best practices in medical-surgical nursing and substance detoxification.
Participate in continuing education opportunities to enhance your knowledge and skills.
Quality Improvement:
Contribute to quality improvement initiatives by participating in performance improvement activities and suggesting process enhancements.
Qualifications:
Valid and current registered nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts.
Minimum 1 year of experience in medical-surgical nursing.
Experience in addiction or detox settings is highly desirable.
Certification in addiction nursing or related field is a plus.
Strong understanding of medical-surgical principles, including the management of co-occurring medical conditions.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Ability to handle high-stress situations and provide compassionate care.
Proficiency in paper, electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical documentation.
Dedication to maintaining patient confidentiality and upholding ethical standards.
Positive attitude and passion for working with patients with substance-use disorder.
