Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team at Petco. As a key member of our veterinary hospital, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and working collaboratively with our team to deliver high-quality medical services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide physical examinations, diagnose and treat diseases, and provide preventive care to patients
  • Utilize a problem-based approach to develop complete problem lists, differential diagnoses, diagnostic plans, and treatments
  • Document patient observations, findings, treatments, and diagnoses in the medical record
  • Perform routine and complex surgical procedures, including spays, neuters, and mass removals
  • Develop treatment plans for patients undergoing day hospitalization and communicate effectively with referral hospitals
Requirements
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree or equivalent from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school
  • Active licensure as a veterinarian without contingencies in the state in which the hospital is located or ability to obtain by start date
  • Current DEA license and Controlled Substance License, if applicable
  • USDA Category I Accreditation or completion within two months of hire date
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as compassion and sympathy
Work Environment

The majority of job duties will be conducted in the Vetco Total Care veterinary full-service hospital. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds), and standing for long periods of time.
