Substation Technician

At the City of Garland, Texas, we are seeking a skilled Substation Technician to join our team. As a Substation Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining, constructing, and retrofitting electric substation equipment, including circuit breakers, transformers, switches, battery systems, tap changers, cooling systems, lighting arresters, and other substation equipment.

• Install, maintain, assist, and repair breakers and transformers.
• Perform switch and clearance orders as instructed by dispatch.
• Follow dispatch instructions on releasing clearance.
• Perform general substation maintenance and repairs.
• Conduct infrared testing and interpretation of readings on all equipment.
• Document and perform monthly inspections for transformers and counter readings.
• New construction and modification of existing substations.
• Pull and terminate control wiring in control house and switchgear.
• Install rack and terminate cables for communication equipment.
• Provide support for 24-hour operations; Substation Standby Duties and callout assistance after regular working hours.
• Occasional travel to remote system facilities.

• Minimum Education & Work Experience: Six months to one year of advanced study or training past the high school level, or 2 years related substation experience.
• Preferred Knowledge - Abilities & Skills: Basic knowledge of general Substation construction and maintenance procedures, Substation safety regulations, and Microsoft Office including Excel and Word.
• Licenses & Certifications: Valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License, and Valid Texas Class "A" CDL or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
