Job Overview

Reports To: Charge Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY: The Emergency Department Registered Nurse reports directly to the on-duty Nursing Supervisor. This role encompasses managing a diverse range of medical conditions, injuries, and emergencies, requiring the ability to multi-task effectively to deliver exceptional patient care. Quick assessment and treatment during acute illness or trauma are essential. The nurse will support the emergency room team leader and acute care nurse as directed.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  2. Current licensure in good standing in California.
  3. Preferred: 1 year of experience in an Emergency Department setting.
  4. Certifications: ACLS, PALS, and CPR; NRP and TNCC required within one year of hire.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific Competencies:

  1. Conduct thorough patient assessments, prioritizing data collection based on immediate needs.

  3. Administer treatments as prescribed by physicians promptly and accurately.
  4. Perform assigned tasks with precision (e.g., EKGs, blood draws, IV starts).
  5. Provide tailored patient and family education.
  6. Document assessments, responses to interventions, and progress towards resolutions.
  7. Initiate emergency resuscitation measures as per protocols.
  8. Uphold confidentiality regarding patient and staff matters.
  9. Deliver care in a respectful, non-discriminatory manner, honoring patient autonomy and rights.
  10. Adhere to safety and infection control standards in patient care.
  11. Assist nursing staff in other departments as needed and qualified.
  12. Assume responsibility for ensuring high standards of patient care.
  13. Communicate concerns regarding medical or nursing care through the appropriate channels.
  14. Follow medication administration and narcotics control procedures, documenting accurately.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Maintain a neat and professional appearance in accordance with dress code.
  2. Complete annual educational requirements as applicable.
  3. Meet regulatory requirements consistently.
  4. Wear identification while on duty.
  5. Participate actively in annual evaluations.
  6. Report to work punctually and fulfill scheduled hours.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Willingness to work beyond standard hours and temporarily in other roles when necessary.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift, walk, and move intermittently during working hours.
  2. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
