Job Overview

Position Summary:

The CNC Machinist Specialist II is responsible for setting up and operating specialized machinery, including conventional lathes, mills, and numerical control (NC) machines, to fabricate high-quality metallic and non-metallic components. This role requires the ability to read and interpret technical documents such as blueprints and specifications to ascertain dimensions, tolerances, and operational sequences. The machinist will monitor machine operations to identify malfunctions or deviations from specifications and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review technical drawings and work orders.
  • Secure parts and fixtures to the machine.
  • Position tools according to setup guidelines.
  • Input or program machine as needed.
  • Operate machinery to manufacture components.
  • Measure workpieces and adjust offsets as necessary.
  • Mark or engrave essential information on finished parts.
  • Report any nonconforming products to supervisors.
  • Deburr components as required.
  • Complete documentation and conduct first piece inspections.
  • Proofread and edit programs as necessary.
  • Optimize tooling and programs to enhance production efficiency.
  • Verify calibration of quality control instruments.
  • Operate forklifts as needed.

Required Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, safety protocols, and operational manuals.
  • Strong understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to apply basic algebraic and geometric concepts.
  • Competence in calculating and adjusting machining parameters such as speed, feed, and coolant flow.

Educational Background:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Experience Requirements:

  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.
