Staff Nurse

We are seeking a skilled Staff Nurse to join our team at the University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing. As a Staff Nurse, you will play a critical role in assessing patients' nursing care needs, evaluating the effectiveness of care provided, and integrating nursing theory and research into clinical practice.
Key Responsibilities- Apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient responses to health and illness.
- Assess patient health care preferences and expectations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate the continuum of care across settings.
- Develop patient care plans based on patient condition, age, and psychological, educational, and socioeconomic conditions.
- Implement patient care plans according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses.
- Collaborate with patients and families to integrate their contributions into multidisciplinary patient care plans.
- Develop, coordinate, and implement transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care.
- Implement nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- An Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
- General computer skills are required, including proficiency in managing multiple databases, including Microsoft Excel.
- Minimum of 2 years acute care RN experience.
- Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire.
- Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Masters Degree in Nursing is highly desired.
- If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.
- A dynamic, fast-paced work environment including telephone triage and digital media.
- A multi-disciplinary team that assists outside providers in transferring their critically ill patients and University Physicians to admit their ill patients to the appropriate unit for their specific care needs.
