Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated dental hygienist to join our team at Palms Medical Group. As a part-time dental hygienist, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing quality dental care to patients in a supportive and collaborative team setting.

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a licensed dentist, you will be responsible for providing quality dental care and associated services to patients using established dental hygiene procedures. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  1. Providing customer service and support to patients of Palms Medical Group
  2. Documenting phone calls in our electronic dental record system
  3. Knowing all PMG departments and services
  4. Providing necessary dental services to patients within your scope of practice
  5. Identifying yourself as a dental hygienist and wearing identification at all times
  6. Exhibiting professionalism when greeting, seating, and draping patients
  7. Preparing patients for dental hygiene treatment by reviewing their health history, dental chart, oral history, and dental radiographs
  8. Completing prophylaxis by removing calculus, plaque, and stains from all surfaces of the teeth and beneath gingival margins
  9. Feeling and visually examining gums for sores and signs of disease
  10. Feeling for lymph nodes under patients' chins to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate oral cancer
  11. Applying fluorides or other cavity-preventing agents to arrest dental decay
  12. Taking radiological pictures of patients' teeth and mouths
  13. Charting conditions of oral decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by the dentist
  14. Managing inventory and submitting order requests to the VP of Business Continuity
  15. Maintaining dental equipment by sharpening and sterilizing dental instruments
  16. Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining professional work areas
  17. Providing patient education on oral hygiene and plaque control
  18. Providing clinical services or dental education to improve or maintain patients' oral health
  19. Performing administrative duties, including reading and adhering to the Dental Policy Manual and HIPAA Policy Manual

Requirements

General Development:

  1. You must be organized, a self-starter, and detail-oriented
  2. Job duties require the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  3. You are expected to travel and cover other sites during dental hygienist absences

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

  1. You must be able to read and interpret written dental instructions
  2. You will know how to operate efficiently a dental x-ray machine
  3. You will properly protect patients from x-ray radiation
  4. You will know how to expose dental radiographs
  5. You will know how to efficiently operate NexGen
  6. You will be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word and Excel

Licenses & Certifications:

  1. You must have an Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene
  2. You must have a current Dental Hygiene license issued by the State of Florida
  3. You must have a current BLS (basic life support) Certification

Communications Skills:

  1. You must effectively communicate complex and/or technical information to co-workers, patients, and/or vendors

Physical/Mental/Emotional Demands:
