Dental Hygienist

Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated dental hygienist to join our team at Palms Medical Group. As a part-time dental hygienist, you will have the opportunity to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, providing quality dental care to patients in a supportive and collaborative team setting.Position Summary
Under the supervision of a licensed dentist, you will be responsible for providing quality dental care and associated services to patients using established dental hygiene procedures. Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Providing customer service and support to patients of Palms Medical Group
- Documenting phone calls in our electronic dental record system
- Knowing all PMG departments and services
- Providing necessary dental services to patients within your scope of practice
- Identifying yourself as a dental hygienist and wearing identification at all times
- Exhibiting professionalism when greeting, seating, and draping patients
- Preparing patients for dental hygiene treatment by reviewing their health history, dental chart, oral history, and dental radiographs
- Completing prophylaxis by removing calculus, plaque, and stains from all surfaces of the teeth and beneath gingival margins
- Feeling and visually examining gums for sores and signs of disease
- Feeling for lymph nodes under patients' chins to detect swelling or tenderness that could indicate oral cancer
- Applying fluorides or other cavity-preventing agents to arrest dental decay
- Taking radiological pictures of patients' teeth and mouths
- Charting conditions of oral decay and disease for diagnosis and treatment by the dentist
- Managing inventory and submitting order requests to the VP of Business Continuity
- Maintaining dental equipment by sharpening and sterilizing dental instruments
- Cleaning, organizing, and maintaining professional work areas
- Providing patient education on oral hygiene and plaque control
- Providing clinical services or dental education to improve or maintain patients' oral health
- Performing administrative duties, including reading and adhering to the Dental Policy Manual and HIPAA Policy Manual
Requirements
General Development:
- You must be organized, a self-starter, and detail-oriented
- Job duties require the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- You are expected to travel and cover other sites during dental hygienist absences
Professional & Technical Knowledge:
- You must be able to read and interpret written dental instructions
- You will know how to operate efficiently a dental x-ray machine
- You will properly protect patients from x-ray radiation
- You will know how to expose dental radiographs
- You will know how to efficiently operate NexGen
- You will be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word and Excel
Licenses & Certifications:
- You must have an Associate of Science degree in Dental Hygiene
- You must have a current Dental Hygiene license issued by the State of Florida
- You must have a current BLS (basic life support) Certification
Communications Skills:
- You must effectively communicate complex and/or technical information to co-workers, patients, and/or vendors
Physical/Mental/Emotional Demands:
- Standing for long periods of time
- Sitting for long periods of time
- Viewing a computer monitor for long periods of time
- Bending
- Stretching / Reaching
- Walking short distances
- Lifting up to 50 pounds
- Operating office equipment (computer, fax machines, telephones, and copy machines)

- Exposure to potentially violent / irate patients
- Health / Safety Consideration of Position
- Exposure to chemical infectious / contagious illness
- Exposure to chemical and inhalation of antibiotics during reconstitution
- Exposure to X-Ray radiation
- Exposure to a variety of scents and odors
- You must utilize universal precaution in clinical or exposure situations as prescribed by federal, state, and local guidelines and/or laws
