Motor Carrier Specialist

Under general supervision, the Motor Carrier Specialist I performs in-depth vehicle inspections for annual certifications, makes recommendations regarding the granting of PUC operating authority, and inspects carrier and chipper facilities for compliance with state and federal regulations pertaining to documentation of hazardous materials and wastes.
The incumbent will also prepare comprehensive written reports of inspections conducted, make detailed investigations of vehicles involved in accidents to determine if cause was mechanical, and assist in preparation of complaints, reports, and exhibits.
Additionally, the Motor Carrier Specialist I will testify as a witness in court and work in inclement weather conditions.
Working ConditionsThis position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code and requires the appointee to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment.
The appointee must also be willing to work in inclement weather conditions.
Special Requirements- The position requires a valid California Drivers License (CDL) and the ability to pass a drug screening, background investigation, and medical clearance prior to being hired.
- The incumbent must also meet the minimum qualifications for the Motor Carrier Specialist I classification to be eligible to take the examination.
The CHP utilizes their own Motor Carrier Specialist I certification list, and applicants must submit an application to this Job Control in order to be considered for the position.
