About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Low Temperature Physicist to join our team at The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL). As a member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work on a variety of low-temperature experiments, including the development of cryogenic apparatuses, cryogenically cooled sensors, and exploration of novel quantum systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop creative, independent research in support of existing efforts
  • Pursue new work in fields of interest to you and APL's sponsors, utilizing APL's cryogenic user systems
  • Support existing programs through day-to-day operations of various cryogenic systems and experiments
  • Supply high-quality ideas and insights into both existing and future problems, leading to novel solutions adaptable to APL and sponsor needs
Requirements
  • PhD in physics or a closely related field (e.g., applied physics)
  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, propose, and implement research concepts using cryogenic systems or in characterizing materials or systems at cryogenic temperatures
  • Strong desire to work in an interdisciplinary, applied science environment
  • Ability to obtain an Interim Secret security clearance by start date and ultimately obtain a TS/SCI+poly level clearance
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience studying cryogenic fluids such as superfluid helium
  • Active TS/SCI +poly security clearance
