Job Title: Rail Operations & Logistics Manager

Job Summary:

The Rail Operations & Logistics Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering exceptional customer and logistics services by optimizing load planning and rail dispatching. This position ensures timely delivery to customers and plants while fostering collaboration across departments, including customers, plant operations, rail lines, and sales.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the organization's rail logistical operations efficiently.
  • Evaluate and refine financial reports, KPIs, and operational data to identify areas for cost reduction and expedited product movement.
  • Build and maintain relationships with outside carriers.
  • Organize and assemble daily load plans and rail movements to maximize operational efficiency and meet customer demands.
  • Serve as the company's Subject Matter Expert (SME) for rail operations and logistics management, ensuring compliance with 49 CFR Part 174, FRA regulations, and other local requirements.
  • Drive innovation and process improvement by leveraging data analysis to optimize rail logistics strategies.
  • Implement and execute SOPs for rail operations.
  • Negotiate contracts.
  • Maintain all pertinent documentation for the movement of rail cars and contracting for rail services.
  • Liaise with Plant Management, Transportation Director & Customer Service Departments regularly.
  • Report completed daily dispatch to appropriate departments.
  • Be available to assist with Transportation emergencies 24/7 and be a member of the Crisis Response team.
  • Be available on-call for transportation and customer service issues, including weekends and after hours, to manage rail car assets and address dispatch changes.
  • Will be crossed trained in OTR dispatching operations to cover for callouts and vacations.

Requirements:

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to provide daily/hourly instructions precisely.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage and coordinate a variety of shipments and shipping methods.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing industry trends, situations, and technologies.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and technology for rail operations, transportation management systems, and software.
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, Environment, and Security, (HSE&S) regulations in the railway and transportation industry.
  • Basic understanding of the geographical area, rail lines, and rail programs to facilitate efficient routing.
  • Proficient with or ability to quickly learn our dispatch system.
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Must be able to pass a 10 panel controlled substance testing and random testing after that.
  • Must be able to pass a background investigation check and maintain in good standing order, as per TSA's TWIC criteria.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position may require occasional travel to company sites.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.

Education and Experience:

  • 7-10 years of relevant experience.
