OVERVIEW

The Grand Sierra Resort and Casino is seeking enthusiastic and service-oriented individuals to become part of our Food and Beverage team as a Pastry Specialist. Under the supervision of the Executive Chef, the Pastry Specialist is responsible for crafting a variety of baked goods and pastry creations essential for our resort's culinary offerings. This role includes assisting the Pastry Chef in mentoring and guiding Baker's Helpers, ensuring the highest quality of all assigned baked items, and delivering exceptional service throughout the department while adhering to all standards set by the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to:
  • Prepare, bake, and finish a range of desserts including cakes, pies, French pastries, cream tarts, and other baked items following established recipes.
  • Produce desserts and baked goods for various dining venues and events according to production schedules; prepare requisitions for necessary items for storeroom and pastry chef approval.
  • Maintain a clean and sanitary workstation in compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Follow directions and recipes as provided by Bakery management.
  • Exhibit strong performance in communication, initiative, problem-solving, guest service, work habits, and professional conduct.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a bakery setting is required. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to interact with customers and colleagues in a respectful and tactful manner.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY
Possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English to complete reports, correspondence, and effectively communicate with guests, team members, and supervisors. Capable of presenting information and responding to inquiries from various groups including management, staff, and the public.

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
A High School Diploma or GED is required. Any combination of education, training, or experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable.

REASONING SKILLS
Ability to interpret and act upon a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form. Strong time management, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential.

MATH SKILLS
Ability to accurately perform basic arithmetic operations and calculate figures and amounts.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 18 years of age. Flexibility to work various shifts, including holidays, nights, and weekends as required by business needs. This position may involve performing a combination of functions based on the specific requirements of the resort.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee must maintain physical stamina and a positive mental attitude to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and navigate through all areas of the resort; speak and hear; use hands for various tasks. May need to reach above shoulder level, bend, stoop, squat, balance, kneel, lift, and push/pull. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
