We are currently seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to collaborate with a board-certified Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeon.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations. Update the status of patients scheduled for follow-up visits.
  • Interpret diagnostic imaging, including x-rays.
  • Order additional imaging studies such as CT scans and MRIs.
  • Perform joint aspirations and injections.
  • Apply casts, splints, and braces under physician supervision.
  • Remove sutures and staples as required.
  • Prescribe medications as appropriate.
  • Manage patient visits both independently and under supervision, documenting progress notes and collaborating on treatment plans with physician approval.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing physician calls and triaging patient inquiries.
  • Ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation of all patient interactions.
  • Conduct follow-up calls as necessary.
  • Participate in on-call duties as needed, with negotiable involvement.
  • Optional participation in surgical procedures on a weekly basis.
Communication

Internal: Collaborate with physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, administrative staff, and clinical personnel.

External: Engage with patients, families, external referral sources, hospital personnel, vendors, and regulatory representatives.

Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Master of Science in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner Program.
  • Active licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner in the State of Illinois.
  • ACLS certification is desirable; current CPR certification is required.
  • Demonstrated competence, sound judgment, and professional integrity.
  • Fluency in English is essential; knowledge of a second language is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.

Experience and Skills

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a clinical setting, such as a physician's office or hospital.
  • Preferred training in orthopedic care, with at least 1-2 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to make independent clinical decisions regarding patient care.
  • Proven experience in diagnosing and treating patients.
  • Familiarity with managed care principles and experience with Medicare populations.
  • Proficient in practice management and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Physical capability to assist and lift patients as needed.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and adept at time management.
  • Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective documentation.
  • Ability to foster constructive working relationships and maintain them over time.
  • Skilled in prioritizing tasks to ensure a smooth workflow.
  • Analytical skills to interpret instructions and solve problems effectively.
  • Good judgment in determining when to consult or refer to the supervising physician or other healthcare professionals.
