Job Summary
The Alabama Department of Education seeks a highly skilled Psychometrist to join our team. As a Psychometrist, you will play a critical role in improving the academic achievement, behavioral/social skills, and emotional well-being of all students through testing and consultations with other professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Test Administration and Scoring: Select, administer, score, and interpret individual tests of intelligence, academic achievement, psychological processing, and personality and attitudes to referred students.
- Evaluation Data Analysis: Analyze evaluation data and formulate hypotheses and conclusions relating to learning and behavioral issues.
- Intervention Planning: Recommend appropriate interventions and strategies to assist individual students in academic growth and school improvement.
- Observations and Record Review: Conduct informal and formal observations of students as part of the evaluation process and review student records and analyze information pertinent to student learning and school adjustment needs.
- Communication and Collaboration: Communicate evaluation findings to parents, teachers, and others through written reports and oral presentations, and participate as a member of school educational planning teams and staffing teams to develop assistance plans for at-risk students.
- Eligibility Determination: Determine test score eligibility or non-eligibility of individuals for program and services for disabled students.
- Special Education Staffings: Present evaluation findings in special education staffings to determine eligibility and placement.
- Re-evaluation and Behavioral Support: Participate in the periodic re-evaluation of students with disabilities who are served in special education programs, and utilize knowledge of behavioral principals to develop and assist in the implementation of specific behavioral management plans for individual students, classrooms, and schools.
- Training and Expertise: Provide training and assistance in intervention techniques and strategies designed to improve student success in the school setting, and serve as expert witness in due process hearings related to students with disabilities.
- Policy and Procedure: Interpret state and federal rules, laws, and policies as they relate to identification, placement, and service provisions for students with disabilities or gifted ability and maintain current knowledge of same.
- Test Administration Support: Assist in the administration of state tests as needed in the schools.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in educational psychology, assessment, and intervention, with excellent communication and collaboration skills. A master's degree in a related field and relevant experience in a school setting are required.
